The Fightin’ Malones are a Celtic Roots Rock band, bringing together the traditional music of Ireland, roots Americana music, and contemporary Celtic rock.
The Fightin’ Malones are all about having fun, and making a perfect soundtrack for those that see us to have fun. The band plays "feel good" music, for listeners to tap their feet & sing along to. Whether it’s an Irish pub standard, our take on a gem from the 1920's, or our occasional addition of country-tinged music – people will either recognize it and say, "cool, I love that song" or they’ll be introduced to something new and fun.
The music has a common thread, both in musical structure and content. The traditional music of Ireland made it’s way to America in the many waves of immigrants, some of which ended up in the hills of Appalachia, where they formed their own music over time. Country music was founded on this base, and Elvis incorporated all of this with the music of African Americans to make rock and roll. Now, bands are merging all this into Celtic Rock.
The band is influenced by Celtic Rock, old Irish pub tunes, songs of heartbreak and fighting, along with old American country music and Appalachian/bluegrass music. Not to mention good old rock and roll, both punk and classic. The Fightin’ Malones are the only band in Tampa Bay playing a full range of Irish music, traditional and contemporary.
The Fightin’ Malones are completing an album that includes some originals, and original takes on very old music. A majority of the songs they are recording are traditional songs, and are very old, some over 100 years old, but they still speak to us.
We are the Fightin’ Malones because we play the music of the people that work hard all week, and want to have some serious fun on the weekend. Our music speaks to those who work hard and play hard. Why Fightin’? I guess it’s because these days you have to fight to get anything, and fight harder to keep it.
